Severe Storms Threaten Ben Lecomte's Record-Setting Swim Across The Pacific Ocean

San Francisco, CA (July 31, 2018) – Seeker, the no. 1 most-engaged science publisher on social in the world, today announced that Ben Lecomte’s historic 5,000-mile swim across the Pacific Ocean was threatened by Typhoon Wukong, Typhoon Jongdari and one other tropical storm system, which were on a direct path to collide with the team at sea. Since departing from Choshi, Japan on June 4, 2018, Ben has swam more than 521 nautical miles and has been surprised by the unexpected sheer volume and consistent encounters with plastics and trash that are making the trans-Pacific swim that much more difficult. The team has safely avoided the life-threatening storms by heading towards Japan. The journey has been fraught with storms and mechanical problems. This forced break allows Ben and the team to repair some mechanical issues, but the crew is eager to continue the trip once the storms have subsided. Once conditions at sea are safe, the Seeker vessel will return Ben to his last nautical location -- marking the team’s stronger-than-ever recommitment to persevering in spite of these challenges.
