NEW YORK – (October 27, 2020) – Seeker, the No. 1 science brand on mobile [source: Nielsen DCR, December 2019] has partnered with TRAX from PRX––a podcast network of curated and original high-quality podcasts for 9 to 13-year-olds––to present That’s Totally Normal! and The Genius Generation, two new podcasts making science accessible for tweens.
That’s Totally Normal! premieres to listeners on Wednesday, October 28 and is hosted by Dr. Tessa Commers, a board-certified pediatrician (MD, FAAP) based in Seattle, Washington who specialized in adolescent development. With more than 1.3M subscribers, her @askdoctort TikTok is helping to spread teen body awareness and acceptance in a way that is relatable and accessible to tweens and teens. The podcast series offers a deep dive into what exactly is happening in your body when you’re a tween from a strictly biological and medical standpoint, arming young people with the science and terminology of what happens during puberty so it isn’t as scary or challenging to talk about. The Genius Generation premieres on Thursday, December 10. Each episode focuses on a young person behind an incredible invention, entrepreneurial pursuit, or discovery. Host Danni Washington is a fellow entrepreneur who is just as excited to speak with these inspiring innovators as they are to be interviewed. Washington is a young University of Miami alum with a B.S. in Marine Science/Biology who started a non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring and educating youth about marine conservation through the arts and media. She also served for four years as a naturalist at the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center, where she helped educate thousands of South Florida children about local marine ecosystems.
“We’ve continued to grow our presence in the podcast landscape, having grown from one podcast across all Group Nine brands in 2019, to 13 in 2020. This will be Seeker's fourth and fifth podcasts, but our first foray into programming specifically to tweens. Seeker is planning to continue developing content for the demographic on the platforms they frequent as we have seen strength and success with Gen Z since developing tools to help them during these challenging times,” said Brett Kushner, Group Nine’s VP of Podcasts. “Together with TRAX from PRX we will be covering topics that this age group is especially interested in.”
"Shows from TRAX are real, relatable, provide a welcoming space for young listeners, and serve as a road map for their lives," said Michelle Smawley, Executive Producer of TRAX, which was launched in May 2020 by public media organization PRX. "'That's Totally Normal!' and 'The Genius Generation' are important shows for this demographic and will provide both inspiration and information. We're thrilled to partner with Group Nine and Seeker to bring tweens two new must-hear podcasts."
Both That’s Totally Normal! and The Genius Generation will be available free to audiences on-demand via Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, and across podcast listening platforms.
