NEW YORK, NY (December 19, 2018) -- NowThis, the no. 1 video news publisher in the world on social media, today announced that its hit show, Apocalypse NowThis, has returned for a second season on Facebook Watch with two new episodes dropping every Thursday. The sophomore season will feature twice as many episodes for a total of 10.
Apocalypse NowThis, hosted by NowThis’ Sean Morrow, examines the different ways in which life as we know it on Earth could be wiped out: from nuclear war, to the rise of the machines, to climate change, to particle accelerator mishaps. Episodes feature renowned experts in various fields of science and the humanities including Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Elizabeth Kolbert; Stanford University professor and iconic thinker of population studies, Dr. Paul Ehrlich; National Medal of Science Award-winner, May Berenbaum; and Dr. Lisa Randall, who was named one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People for her work on the evidence for other dimensions. Apocalypse NowThistakes an irreverent but appropriately weighty look at the extermination of all that we know; exploring complex, important, and existential ideas with a fun, tongue-in-cheek voice. Will we be killed by a supervolcano? Zombies? A particle accelerator? Sean will try to find out and learn about some unexpected things along the way.
“When Facebook Watch launched in 2017, we saw a huge opportunity to continue flexing our storytelling chops and leverage the new platform to distribute our longer-form entertainment and deeper original reporting. The success of Season 1 of Apocalypse NowThis not only validates our ability to tell different types of stories in varying formats and lengths, but also the appetite from our audience on the platform for this type of content,” said Tina Exarhos, NowThis’ Chief Content Officer. “We’re thrilled to bring even more Apocalypse NowThis content to our inquisitive young audience and dive deeper into the state of our world.”
