NEW YORK, NY (September 24, 2018) -- NowThis, the no. 1 news publisher in the world on social, announced today the results of a new millennial poll. The poll, conducted in partnership with PredictWise, had numerous key findings.
Key findings (credit: NowThis/PredictWise):
-Sexual Assault Allegations - Nearly half of young adults (49% of Americans ages 18-34) believe Brett Kavanaugh sexually assaulted Christine Blasey Ford in 1982.
-FBI Investigation - Nearly 80% of young adults (77% of Americans ages 18-24, 79% ages 25-34) in the US believe the FBI should investigate allegations against Kavanaugh before the Senate votes on his confirmation.
-SCOTUS Abortion Rights - 48% of Americans ages 18-24 and 46% of ages 25-34 believe that within the next few years the Supreme Court will allow states to make abortion illegal under any circumstance.
-SCOTUS Voting rights - 42% of Americans ages 18-34 believe the Supreme Court will make it too hard for eligible citizens, especially youth and minorities, to vote.
The polls, conducted on September 21, 2018 sampled 750 non-millennials (ages 35 and older) and 750 millennials (ages 18-34) with a model error of +/- 5 percentage points.
“It is critical to move past horse-race polling and examine what motivates voters, how they feel about policy that elections affect, and what they know about the facts on the ground,” said David Rothschild, NowThis pollster and Co-founder of PredictWise. “This is especially interesting for millennial voters who are not just the future of our country and democracy, but whose incredibly low and variable turnout is the crucial unknown and, hopefully, key to growth in democratic participation."
“NowThis has always been incredibly focused on covering and reporting issues that matter the most to young adults,” said Athan Stephanopoulos, President at NowThis. “Given that millennials are taking over baby boomers as the largest voter-eligible group, and more than 4 million first time potential voters will turn 18 in 2018, we saw a unique opportunity to partner with polling expert David Rothschild and his team at PredictWise to further examine our young audience and dig deeper into the core topics that are motivating them in the lead-up to the midterms.”
