NEW YORK, NY (December 1, 2017) – Group Nine Media today named Christa Carone as President of the digital media company. Carone is a corporate marketing and digital media leader with broad global experience bridging brand building, reputation management and revenue generation. She has both buy-side and sell-side leadership experience and an extensive track record of building and running high-performing teams in complex, shifting industries. Carone will oversee a variety of disciplines at Group Nine including the company’s sales and marketing teams as well as its data insights.
“We have great brands, enormous reach and industry leading data and insights -- and with moves like our recent JASH acquisition -- an ever-expanding range of content creation capabilities. Bringing Christa in to connect data insights together with marketing and sales will help us to continue to refine our go-to-market strategy and allow us to be a better partner for brands and agencies alike. And, while all of that is obviously exciting - what’s more exciting is that I believe Christa shares our values and will be a caring, thoughtful colleague and leader,” said Ben Lerer, CEO of Group Nine Media.
“Not only is this a remarkable time for Group Nine as the company benefits from the collective power of its amazing brands, but it is also a fascinating moment for marketers who have more choices and more challenges in connecting with audiences,” said Carone. “Group Nine is in an advantaged position to be a resource and invaluable partner for marketers, bringing their brands closer to the audiences that Group Nine knows like no other. And, that’s what makes this opportunity so exciting and relevant for me. I’m joining a team that values great storytelling, that applies smart insights to cultivating communities, and that places a premium on quality and creativity. The momentum building with each of our brands is energizing, the talented team is impressive and the overall success of Group Nine is inspiring. Even better, I have no doubt that we’re just getting started.”
As a global CMO and a marketing agency COO, Christa has served in executive-level roles, serving renowned global Fortune 100 brands and leading multi-stakeholder engagement initiatives from $200+ million brand transformations to multi-billion dollar acquisitions.
Most recently, Carone was the COO of WPP’s Group SJR and Managing Director of Colloquial, its joint venture with J. Walter Thompson. Prior, Carone served as the CMO for the Boston 2024 Partnership, the organization charged with developing Boston’s bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Previously, she was an executive vice president at Fidelity Investments, responsible for developing enterprise-wide communication strategies and leading Fidelity’s brand messaging, corporate affairs and digital content strategies.
