NEW YORK, NY (July 27, 2017) – Group Nine Media is excited to announce that April Mellody has joined as Head of Corporate Communications, responsible for overseeing all external and internal communications strategy and execution across the organization. Mellody started last week and will be based in the company’s New York headquarters in SoHo, reporting to CEO Ben Lerer.
Group Nine’s VP of Communications Devon Giddon will report to April and continue to manage the daily public relations operations.
April brings to Group Nine over 20 years of experience in branding, political strategy, corporate positioning, marketing and investor relations. She was most recently the Chief Communications Officer for the 2016 Democratic National Convention where she managed a team of over 30 full-time staffers and more than 40 consultants. In that role, she was responsible for all communications for the convention including digital strategy, press operations and the national platform rollout. Prior to that, Mellody was Deputy Chief of Staff to Senator Bob Casey (D-PA). Previously, she was a Senior Vice President at Robinson, Lerer & Montgomery and Assistant Press Secretary in the Clinton White House. She started her career at WUSA-TV in Washington, DC.
